As one of the nimrods on this list, I noticed this is exactly what 
many publishers are planning.  There has been extensive discussion
about how to minimize the viral nature of the OGL.  There are even 
publishers who feel that if something is derived from the SRD and
is designated closed by a subsequent author, we should all respect
that designation.  

With only a handful of exceptions, most of the participants are 
primarily concerned with Open Gaming as a commercial venture.
Sometimes this results in fundamental (often angry) disagreements
with the people who are primarily concerned with Open Gaming as a
cooperative venture.

I originally thought this would be the Free Software Foundation of 
gaming.  It's looking more and more like the X/Open of gaming to me.
Maybe the Linux (a UNIX clone) of gaming will come along later.
