It depends, but somewhere in between there. IIRC the lowest figure I heard
was around $350, but I don't think that was the total cost. >>
My IP lawyers tell me trademark registration costs are VERY dependent on the
complexity of the trademark search AND the amount they have to work to
finesse any possible conflicts. Given that this is, in some sense, and
attempt to co-opt the benefits of the D20 trademark without infringing on
it, a smart IP lawyer is going to eat up more than $350 just in verifying
that Wizards will not raise a stink. So IF Ryan chose to declare that
"Wizards will not raise a stink" (and I doubt he will), he could save you a
lot of costs on this.
They (the lawyers) basically tell me:
* Copyright: Cheap (free, if you like)
* Trademark: Medium expensive on up, depending.
* Patent: The sky's the limit.
