The value of the Player's Handbook to a developer is that it creates the market for us - a network of players familiar with our system. If you think D20 is just about game rules, think again. D20 is a network created by the PHB, without which no new players would be attracted to our own games. The idea that so many of our players are going to be non-D&D playing is a nice thought but hardly realistic. Wizards is scratching our back tremendously in offering us their player base.
