"I'd say it's going to meet White Wolf's goal,
assuming that goal is to make a quick buck. This could
have been a much better product if they had waited
until the Monster Manual was out. As it is, it looks
rushed (especially the art) and I have very low
expectations for the quality of the design."

Wow. Harsh.

Lots of different artists worked on the project. I
like some more than others--but the same can be said
for all rule books. There is plenty of art in the new
WotC products I dont care for. And some I love. I cant
imagine you think all the art sucks. I mean, just go
check the sample ones on the web site--the Feral and
Ratman, for example, are some of my favorite monster
art (short of Trampier himself, and John Masse who
does my stuff).

I guess I dont know what you mean by "very low
expectations for the quality of the design." Its a
quality hardback book.

And I guess I take exception to another person who
released product early saying that someone else is out
for a quick buck. I woulnt ascribe that motive to you.
The way I see it, we have all been totally geeked to
put out D&D stuff for a long time. For me this is like
a kid's dream come true--to actually be able to put
out stuff for D&D, my lifelong hobby. To hear you say
it is only some crass commercial product bothers me.
Besides, whatever money is made on this project will
hardly repay the hours from 6 to 1 am that I spend
every night on this stuff, pissing off my wife and
making myself sick from lack of sleep. Believe me,
this is a labor of love. I assume it is the same for
you guys.

I hope the tone of your email was not intended.

I personally have a copy of the book and I am proud of
it. Granted, it is more like the Fiend Folio than the
monster manual--meaning there are a lot of special
monsters. They arent your bread and butter orcs and
goblins and ogres and trolls. But they are good and
they add a definite flavor.

I dont want to start a "review thread" for the CC. But
I couldnt sit by and hear those comments on the public
list without commenting myself. Particularly when
every comment I have gotten from Alliance is
overwhelmingly positive.
