Just because some people agree doesn't make it the right long-term business decision, especially in this 'very small' industry. However, I'm really glad you posted your apology so quickly (and finally had that coffee) because I think it will lessen and mitigate any worries people may have had about your initial reaction and dealing with you in the future.
