That's the idea, yes.  I am going to do something somewhat like that.  Not so I can compete with the current d20 market, but so I can get away from it and it from me.  The cool thing is that I can still use the d20stl for the products that can comply with the license and feed off of its market.  For those that can't I'll just place under the OGL and distribute them along with an altered version of the SRD.  Thus, this is how one company can target a variety of unrelated markets.

Being an NPO I'm not as interested in turning a profit as I am in fulfilling my mission statement. (But it is a very close second).  So the fact that my publications will mostly be OGC does not financially matter as much as long as they are constantly being redistributed.  We will need to make a lot of money, yes, but I'm not counting on it coming from the d20 products we produce.

So, for that reason, I also do not recommend straying from the d20 logo for companies who plan on producing traditional gaming materials.  IMO, the less your product identifies with the current d20 market, the more you should try to establish your own look and signatures through the SRD/OGL....if you choose to use the d20 system, that is.

Not that I'm recommending this, but couldn't an enterprising person, once
the SRD has been released under OGL, take the entire SRD -- perhaps reformat
it slightly, throw in a couple of spells/items/monsters -- and create a new
"Dolphin SRD."  They could then create a new LOGO for this SRD and create a
D20STL type license for the LOGO, but without the character creation
limitations and specifically allow Conversion rules from other systems.
