Better analogy: you're told, "Make sure you have good health insurance,
because the house is three stories tall, and I have no liability insurance.
I would really hate to see you fall and get hurt AND get stuck with a big
hospital bill." That doesn't mean you shouldn't paint the house, and it
doesn't mean you can't do the job without insurance. But it does mean that,
if you break a leg and have to pay a few grand in doctor's fees because you
didn't get insurance, your friend is going to shake his head and say, "I
wish you had insurance..."
(And yes, I know that in reality, you would sue your friend whether he had
liability insurance or not...)
