I think probably not. The case to look at is the Red Book used car values
case. In that case, the Red Book editors used their own intuition to
"guess" at the street price for various types of used cars (their system was
a little more complex than that!). Another company took the Red Book and
converted it to digital for use in a database tool.
The court held that because the data in the Red Book (>just guesses at
prices, btw<) was not the expression of a formula, or "real world" data like
phone numbers (or actual sales figures), it was entitled to copyright
protection and held in favor of the Red Book publishers.
