I would be extremely surprised if Wizards could keep other people away from
using
Forgotten followed by any place name. There have been numerous works titled
Forgotten World, Forgotten Worlds, Forgotten Land, and other Forgotten places
that predate TSR's use of Forgotten Realms, and there was even a 1993 Doc
Savage novel called The Forgotten Realm.

However, that's just as good a reason to choose a name other than Forgotten
Lands. You couldn't stop anyone else from using the same or extremely similar
marks to identify their own work later on.

Incidentally, yesterday the USPTO sent WOTC's trademark lawyer something
regarding the D20 System registrations. According to the online database,
"A non-final
Office action is being typed. This is a letter from the examining attorney
requesting
additional information and/or making an initial refusal. However, no final
determination
as to the registrability of the mark has been made."
