If the answer is > "no," the OGC is "crippled." (At least by my definition.)
The OGL doesn't give you permission to do this actually. Not explicitly at least. It does (explicitly) prohibit you from using trademarks (company names, perhaps names of books) without separate permission and from indicating compatability with another work. In many cases, the name of the work that you want to point to and the name of the company that published it will be trademarks. These names might also be PI, which would also prohibit you from using them. I think an argument could also be made that you are claiming compatability by going beyond what the OGL requires to explicitly point out that the "Frost Ape" is the same one that S&SS put out in CC. There was a discussion not so long ago (on this list) about giving credit in the way you are describing by using footnotes to indicate where an item or section of text came from. Tim Dugger pointed out in that thread (as Martin Shoemaker did on d20-l)that you'd have to use some shorthand method or point to a line of section 15 of the OGL in your work to get around this because you can't use the trademarked names in your OGL'ed work. I think that's valid. On the d20 list, Brad Thompson pointed out Section 11 of the OGL which prohibits you from advertising the source of the OGC (beyond listing it in Section 15). That seems to be a problem with explicit citation as well. >From your other post titled "Explanation of 'Crippled'" I gather you feel that you need to give credit where credit is due and you want your customers to know where good stuff came from. Is this at all important?
