One could argue that due to the large amount of OGL'd stuff that is likely
to continue being out there indefinately, that 3E, even if it was replaced
by whomever owned it at the time, would continue to grow as, if nothing
else, a cult classic or the 'free' counter to the 4E.. It could become the
'linux' of the gaming world.. Sure, Linux isn't entirely free, nor would 3E
material, but there are some really messed up people that think that
corporations who exist to make fat profits are wrong and they would use
material from lesser known, obscure companies on a game system that, while
being cool, wasn't the 'industry favorite' just to keep their dollars from
going to the powerful corps.
