In a questionable case like this, the proper procedure is to do it, NOT 
publishing it or adveritising it, and then ask for comment.  WotC's 
people on this list have historically not liked to talk about 
hypotheticals, and try and limit their time and statements to specifics.

By neither printing or advertising a work that skirts the edges, you're 
showing due caution, and is different than "pissing in the pool."  Just 
be careful, and be ready to scrap the entire thing if it doesn't work 
out well.


Oh, and try NOT to use their specifically identified trademarks.  That 
might be a red flag for them.
