Technically its 'Microsoft Word for Windows' as its full trade name. 'Word'
is just what people call it. At the minimum, MS refers to it as 'Microsoft
Word'.  I know from 5yrs of writing test cases/test plans etc that in
anything that is to be released to non-MS folks must specificy either of
those two names, and that 'Word' is unacceptable from the corporate rules
:(

If MS decided to release an auto, it would be 'Microsoft Car', not 'Car'..
Which is why you can PI something like 'Aegon's Sword' but not Sword.

(IANAL and could be completely wrong..)
