If your studio tends to have multiple texture maps under different names that 
turn out to be identical (sigh, as we do, to an embarrassing degree), then yes, 
it stands to gain quite a bit.  And certainly there is no reason not to.

Did we not make that the default not long ago?  I'd need to check.
