Your systems are compromised to the extent you suck in or connect to data. Take Robert Stanek, arguable the most famous author spammer. OL has escaped direct spam, but you link to Goodreads on all of his books, with hundreds of reviews promised in your link. My guess is that 99% are bogus. He's also hit WorldCat.
We deleted virtually all his reviews and owners, and after fighting with him for weeks, also added a notice across every page connected to him. http://www.librarything.com/author/stanekrobert It might be good to start sharing spam examples, culprit IPs and etc, between sites.
