The problem with SUV's today is they are no longer what they were meant
to be, enclosed pick ups with seating for extra passengers. Like in the
example mentioned earlier, the perfect vehicle for 4 hunters trailing
through the mud.

Here comes the Oldsmobile Tie-in. When Oldsmobile introduced the Bravada
(The world's first Luxury SUV) initially everyone laughed at them, who
wants a luxury SUV right? Or so they thought. The Japanese weren't
laughing. The Land cruiser was soon marketed as a luxury SUV, then Lexus
had their version, then low and behold the industry realizes there IS a
market for luxury SUV's. So we get Infiniti's, and BMW's, Mercedes, and
even a Porsche. But luxury SUV owners don't like the truck like ride, so
we got to make them more car-like, heck lets build them out of cars. Oh
and let's make them more affordable, since everybody wants one. So now
they have Kias and Hyundais, and all sorts of SUVs that look nothing
like a truck, while GM and Ford are stuck looking like the "bad guys"
because their SUVs are large and unsafe. Well, hell, that's because
their SUVs are closer to what they began with in the first place.

Interesting bit of trivia, the Bravada was supposed to be a full size
SUV, but big GM didn't want to risk it. Remember, they felt nobody would
even want a luxury SUV, much less a full-size behemoth, so after the
market was expanded, Cadillac got the full size Escalade and Olds was
left with the little brother that just couldn't compete.

You know what, I gotta speak up about this. Why was the station wagon
deemed uncool? I think that they were cool as hell. I saw a Vista wagon
at a car show that ran low 11's in the quarter, and then he could drive
home from the strip and pick up the grocerys. They were a hell of alot
more roomy than a SUV not to mention stable i.e. lower to the ground so
they handle a hellva lot better. What irratates me to no end, is when I
am trying to look down the road to turn left or right and then an SUV
will pull up next to me completly blocking my entire field of vision.
The damn things are like rolling billboards. What good is an SUV
anyways? Let me count the ways in which they are pointless. 1- Not as
much room as a truck so you can't haul stuff larger than a few
groceries. 2- They are gas hungry like a truck so they aren't as good as
a car . 3- They are easier to tip over in a sharp turn than a car. 4-
They are still built somewhat like a car so you can't really use them as
4x4 to go cross country. So what the hell are peoples attraction with
em? They aren't a car. They aren't a truck. The're pointless as either
one. My two cents. Thank you.
