I have to agree with the author of the article, It was concise but did allow for other facters that need to be considered for acceptance as a musclecar. There is a certain charecter and indescribable quality that some cars have that do not fall into the "criteria" yet are musclecars.  If it wasn't for ford with the nodular 5.0 in the 80's there would be nothing today, chrysler and GM cut bait during those years.  Ford was the only game then, Chryslers rebirth and reserection is all because of horsepower, in part. the new hemi.  Which begs the question, is the new charger a musclecar?  The new charger Daytona has 400 hp yet 4 doors, I don't know. The new GTo or should I say the old new GTO performance #s blow away the orig. GTO's yet no one considers this new GTO a musclecar.  The #'s would support musclecar status.  We'll see what happens with the new camaro and challenger.  What about a big block camaro in 70?  Not a Z28 but a monster none the less  Of course if #'s is all it takes what about the bmw M cars and the mercedes high perf. cars. they're #'s fit the mold.  I guess it's just like women, some have it some don't and they're all constructed differently and perform diferently.  You just have to take it on a one to one basis.

According to my SUPER TUNING and BLUEPRINTING OLDS "W" MACHINES, W-30 W-31
W-32, Registered NHRA Limits, for the '68-'69 model year, one had to order
the 442 option first, which automatically was the W-32 (400 standard engine
286 cam). The W-30 could be picked instead of the W-32 to get the 400 engine
with the 328 cam in a 442, along with the other goodies for a W-30. The W-31
SB with 308 cam was simply an add-on option to an Olds A-body. I would
assume for '70-'71, a W-30 was selected as an option **after** the 442
option was selected by the buyer, similar to the '68-'69 buying procedure.

I don't know. Look at the following for another take on the definition of a
Muscle Car.
