Why is my olds overheating in traffic ? The motor was rebuilt 25,ooo ago.
New large radiator, several different thermostats. Anyone else have this
problem when stuck in traffic ? I drove it from Daly City yesterday to
Petaluma did fine on the freeway but when I just passed thru town and hit
maybe 2 stoplights and then was home the thing boiled over.
25,000 miles ago could equal deposits in the radiator plugging the tubes.
The radiator may need to be disassembled and the tubes rodded out. If that's
the case, a cooling system chemical cleaning and flush would be a good idea.
Also, if you have a bad clutch on the radiator fan, that would give the same
results.
High speed driving cools the radiator with all the forced air going through
it. But low speed driving depends on the fan clutch being in very good shape
and the radiator tubes flowing to their full capacity.
