That's very true.

There's something else that must be remembered about today's race engines. They're computer controlled. That in and of itself takes at least 2 full seconds off the elapsed time at the drag strip. Another extremely important factor is tire technology. We now have rubber compounds for traction that couldn't be dreamed of 30 years ago. That's good for another full second, maybe even a lot more, off of drag strip elapsed times. I don't want a computer in my cars. I want to be in control. So, there's more to today's quicker drag strip times than just engine technology improvements.
