Randy,
My buddy who bought my 67 Cutlass has gotten a spare 330 block and heads.
He has asked me how big can he build the 330?
Maximum overbore, like any other 2nd gen Olds engine, is 0.060". That would
give him a 340 CID.
Can a 400 be made out her?
No. A 403 has a 4.351" bore. The 330 only has a 3.9385" bore. I could sell
him a 403. I've got a spare.
...what rods / pistons, bore/ crank to use?
Use the 330 forged steel crank, 403 rods are the best for an Olds SB (403
rods are equivalent to GM Chevy "Pink" SB rods in strength and steel alloy),
overbore 0.060", and use the 330 heads. If he got a 403, he could put the
330 heads on the 403, the 330 crank inside the 403, overbore the 403 to
0.030" to make a 409, and have a real street sleeper, since from the outside
the 403 would look like a 330. I'm going to do that with my 4-door '65 F-85.
:-)))
I will pass on any tips given.
Okay.
