Don't know too much about a jetaway but if its made by
gm then would'nt it be the same tranny as a
powerglide?

Yes, it is similar to a Powerglide, like a Powerglide with a switch pitch converter.

If so they are used in plenty of racecars
and withstand tons of abuse. ?/???

Yes, that's true. Powerglides are used in drag racing cars and road racing cars, but only after about $1500-$2500 worth of extensive modifications to make the transmission live. A stock TH400 will handle 500 honest HP as it comes from the factory. A Jetaway or Powerglide won't in stock form.
