They did away with the camaro and trans am because the
suv's were more profitable and they needed the rear
wheel assembly plants to make those.

No, those were made in the Ste Therese, Quebec, Canada plant.  GM closed
that plant in 2002 when F body production ended because in GM's eyes sales
fell too far in that segment to support the capacity of that plant.  That
plant has since been leveled.  They did, however, kill the B-body in
Arlington TX in December of 1996 then switch that plant over to pop out
Tahoes, Yukons etc.
