And this is while doing what? Without config.log, I can't tell
what's going on...
My first guess based on seeing similar error messages is that
whatever you're trying to compile tries to "optimize" things
by adding a couple of compiler flags that happened to produce
a better binary for some version of gcc without checking if
the compiler supports it -- passing a gcc specific compiler
flag to clang results in an error from the compiler -- which
could cause an error message just like that.
