This might be the typical massive package dependecies breakage about
removing libraries that might affect the
distro. And I'm not sure tha dropping just one library it might semplify
the job of developers a lot (maybe on ARM doesn't compile anymore? Then
conditionally drop for ARM only). Certainly not having such library it
will complicate the job of packagers when they will have to do some
backport to something older or stable (think to ROSA or older OMV releases).

Despite what Ubuntu is doing, some other distro, like Mageia5/cauldron
is still keeping directfb and they
updated to release 1.7.5 for cauldron; OMV and cooker still have
directfb 1.6.3.

software or in abandoware state,
since their latest news if from late july 2014, so IMHO there is no
reason to drop it.

So instead of dropping it, I vote about keeping it and even about
upgrading it to 1.7.5 or the upcomping 1.8.0.

Bye.
Giuseppe.
