Yes, calling OF is optional but would be very helpful in placing VMs. Let me give an example: Assume that we need to spin up a VNF �C that needs to connected to a customer premise equipment. In that VF-C calls OF, the input being (1) customer location and (2) list of data centers (3) VNF requirement (like CPU, memory) (4) customer requirements (like latency). The OF consults applicable data sources, does an optimization �C both at cloud level and network levels and provides a subset of data centers where the VNF can be deployed. Copying a couple of my colleagues so that they may chime in as well. We will be starting weekly calls on OF next week �C please participate. In VF-C,VNFM will send a Resource Granting request to NFVO,NFVO will make a decision according the requested parameters and return a vimid to VNFM. I think ,during above process, VF-C may call the OF service API to get the decision on which VIM can be used to deploy VNF.
