[Winona Online Democracy]
I agree with John Finn's observations regarding enhancing the beauty of
Winona. The trees in the city have long been a part of Winona's natural
beauty. Years ago when Broadway was lined with mature trees, one got a sense
of driving in a tunnel, as branches from each side arched to touch each
other. That is now pretty much history. The trees along Huff St. by the lake
will soon make way for a narrow concrete strip. Winona needs to do a much
better job of maintaining it's natural beauty. A case in point is the
excessive trimming of foliage along the lake bikepath, especially near
W.S.H.S. Absent disease, one wonders why anyone (especially the Winona Park
Dept.) would eliminate such beauty along this popular trail, but then there
are plenty of things to wonder about locally.
