I'm questioning which plan for Huff street Mr. Duellman is referring to. It
is my understanding that several have been discussed. Fortunately, the
current cross section for the street improvements to Huff Street calls for
the trees to remain with the light poles to be moved. The result will be a
safe 8' wide trail on the west side of the street section. We agree that
the Winona area is beautiful and that it's abundance of trees is partially
responsible.

I am also curious as to the referenced history of "excessive trimming" along
WSHS. Maintenance for public safety, natural beauty and health are
important. Is it a general opinion that this has been exceeded?

I would appreciate any input for ways to improve the public areas of Winona.
Thanks.

I agree with John Finn's observations regarding enhancing
the beauty of
Winona. The trees in the city have long been a part of
Winona's natural
beauty. Years ago when Broadway was lined with mature trees,
one got a sense
of driving in a tunnel, as branches from each side arched to
touch each
other. That is now pretty much history. The trees along Huff
St. by the lake
will soon make way for a narrow concrete strip. Winona needs
to do a much
better job of maintaining it's natural beauty. A case in
point is the
excessive trimming of foliage along the lake bikepath,
especially near
W.S.H.S. Absent disease, one wonders why anyone (especially
the Winona Park
Dept.) would eliminate such beauty along this popular trail,
but then there
are plenty of things to wonder about locally.
