[Winona Online Democracy]
To me this is an argument for State funding of a statewide method and
equipment for all general elections. The suburban counties tend to be
the richest ones. Can you imagine even in Winona putting a $7,000
piece of equipment in every polling place? Let alone in places like
North Mpls, Dale Selby in St. Paul and the really poor counties in
north central and northeast Minn.
As a property tax payer I know I don't want to pay for such equipment
because here I will see the difference in my tax bill. In Washington
Co. they can do stuff like this because the taxpayer does not see the
increase in their own taxes -- fast growth in taxable property is what
pays for it. For me I don't need to pay more to get the results at
8:15 P.M -- I can wait until 8:05 AM the next morning.
