I've read all of the thread and I chose this one because it points out how much
the tool chain is an issue.
Not all of us use the same workflow, and whatever workflow used is probably
similar for all of the lists an individual subscribes to, when possible. In my
case, lists that do not add identifiers to subjects is a new experience. There
is one on libre-office, and too many at ASF. Also, some lists do "from"
mangling for mysterious purposes so that they basically have to be picked out
of the spam filter by hand (something I see a lot of as a moderator since the
server does that on moderator e-mails).
Some of us do not have the means to filter on deep things in the SMTP headers,
nor is it likely that there is willingness, given the ability, to switch email
tools to deal with that particular case. Reading and posting to subscribed
lists by mobile phone is a particular pinch case.
Finally, there is a binary choice here. There can be subject headers or not.
Currently there are no additions to the subject line. If there is not enough
consensus here on adding subject headers ("[ooo-users]" being the obvious
choice because there are other ooo- lists), then I will not take such a
proposal to the ooo-dev list and the list will stay as is.
I will abide by what I see here. Repeated arguments pro and con and assertions
about what tools work and what tools don't are interesting in demonstrating how
diverse the toolcraft is, but won't figure into my assessment. I doubt there
is a one-size-fits-all solution. It will just be the pro- and con-ness that I
assess. It would also be useful to know how many are indifferent to whichever
way it goes.

It is interesting to me that the lists this list is proposed to replace all
managed to have subject headers and no kittens seem to have died.

Odd; I use TB and have 11 folders; not all, I'll grant, active. But each
is clearly flagged with the number of new items, and TB happily skips to
the next new email wherever it may be.
