I got the same - Firefox 115.37.0esr (64-bit) ... but possibly because I
don't do PDF-viewing in-browser. OTOH the normal action of FF (for me)
would be to initiate a download of the PDF - which it didn't do. That
might depend on the MIME-type (if that's the right concept) that github
applies to the PDF.
I manually downloaded it & used Sumatra PDF (very fast!) to view it. I
did notice that - ironically - the section of the preface
1.1. Typographic Conventions
said nothing about colour & its example code was not coloured. I think
you'd need to describe somewhere what the chosen colours mean & clarify
that users won't see their own code syntax-coloured unless their text
editor supports it & their colour scheme will likely be different.
I don't know if the colours you chose include both red & green but bear
in mind that red/green colour-blindness is common.
