I agree about the fact that we don't want any IP encumberment, but we also want something that can work well and don't add complexity to a design who is already loaded.
Also for Connexant they are one of the few compagnie who make chip and their buisness is selling them, that don't give the documentation of their component unless you sign an NDA. I don't understand why they do that, since the "magic" is inside the chip not in it's interface. What we want is the interface documented. With a documented interface they will probably sell more than if they lock it down. Also when producing something that go to the end user there is always somebody who want to know how it's done or use it in some other way. Exemple : HP printer cartrige and the refiling kit, linux DVD player, xbox, etc... Ending rant mode. If they don't agree to release their spec they will lose a consummer and their competition will win one. The way capitalism is supposed to work.
