What about the 68 pin HD68 connectors used for SCSI?
Those should be quite cheap as they are standard industry products, should
have a defined wave resistance for those who need high frequencies
and can be easily SMT mounted. Those who need it can even get HF
cables, but low end cables are also available. Disadvantages are,
that the connectors are not as common as header pins thus are a little
bit more expensive.
If we need SMT mounted connectors for the space, i would not use
header pins, as those need a lot of force to disconnect and might
result in tearing of a pad or two. There the HD68 scsi
connectors are much better as they need very little force but
still have a good connection.
