A "workout" is not the point of a video test pattern generator.  When
testing things like LCD scaler board or normal display drivers you
need various test patterns.  All red, all green. all blue, gray scale
shades, small back and white lines 1 pixel wide, 1 pixel red, green,
blue lines next to each other, etc

Its also nice to be able to force error conditions.
