Surely, the software would support more cards than ours.  The point is
that we need an app that's pro quality, robust, and supports
everything that a studio needs and then some.

Open Source developers are notorious for developing applications that
make sense to THEM.  What we need is something that seems intuitive to
someone with recording studio experience.  That is, we need an
interface that reminds them of mixing boards and such.

In fact, what we probably need is a suite of apps.  One for recording
studio.  One for music composition.  One for sound-effects.  It might
be bad to try too hard to combine them all.  Just go on what things
traditionally look like and just share code beneath different GUIs.
