And specifically for soundcards, the current situation is that no PCIe soundcards exist. A friend of mine actually sheds a daily tear for his M-Audio Audiophile 2496 that he couldn't use anymore after upgrading to a PCIe (-only) board.
Wanted to mention that, but no, I do not suppose this project could be fast enough to market to fill that particular void. The minute there's actual serious demand, I suppose Creative will slap a bridge chip on one of their designs, for one.
