Er. You don't have to be a member to use their stuff. For example, you
don't have to be a member of the WiFi Alliance to make 802.11 cards.

If you wanted to use their trademark and vote on the next generation
versions of MoCA, and submit changes to the specifications, then you pay
the $12K. In other words, it's just like every other "alliance" out
there, for everything from DVDs to Ethernet.

Oh, and it's explicitly a not-for-profit corporation.
