What we do for the Wiki License?
-----------

When a person creates a user account on the wiki, we
can have them agree to 1) license everything they
submit under the GFDL and 2) transfer copyright of
everything they submit to Traversal Technology. We can
use the agreement that Xara Xtreme (the SVG graphics
program) asks its contributors to sign:

http://www.xaraxtreme.org/images/pdf/16-01-06/contributor_agreement.pdf

We can also use a variation of this agreement when
people submit code. To be on the safe side, I think we
should require contributors to mail (snail-mail, that
is) a signed and notarized copy of this agreement
before their wiki account is activated and/or their
code is accepted.

We do need to be careful as there are other potential SCO's out there. That license is better written than some I have read, in that it avoids a lot of legal speak - though I would be interested to see what other potential contributers reading this list say.

Regrettably the necessary legal 'stuff' is awkward for those who just want to help out on impulse. Especially notarized and signed snail mail.
IANAL so this is speculation..
a. if they see an agreement for their first post in the email they are sent when activating their wiki account and are from then on asked to indicate their agreement to successfully sign on the wiki - would that be adequate? b. With code, attribute each contributions with a license header or sig that says joint ownership as per the agreement? c. with existing code, could we have a standard license header, indicating or referring to the dual license called "The OGP shared license", and if anyone contributes they must sign it off: Signed off: This code is licensed under the OGP shared license, [insert name]

If we have to, we do it. But is there any way we can make it easier to contribute?
