Think about what need we're trying to serve here. The most common

Uhm no. The most common case runs wintel and is probably not even
aware of this project.
People that are unusual enough to run BSD/Linux/Plan9/BeOS/OS-X, etc.
and thus care about this project are also likely to have other
unusual requirements as well. Like oddball monitors that they like
for one reason or another.
Actually, they don't have to be that odd ball to be an issue. In the
world of workstations there really isn't anything odd ball about an old
Sun monitor. But on a standard PC clone, this would be odd ball.
I seem to recall awhile back some list members were worried about
supporting monitors with 50 Ohm inputs.
Did anyone ever find a 50 Ohm monitor. I didn't.
BTW, did anyone ever decide if response down to DC was required?
Since that discussion I have run across 50 Ohm to 75 Ohm
transformers, but of course transformers aren't good down to DC.
How much would you loose with a Pi, L, or T pad? I guess an L would do
it. Never was good at these.
It is my understanding that video is AC coupled and that the monitor has
a DC restoration circuit that clamps the black level. If a monitor has
this, it would be a bad idea to have the connection to it DC coupled
since the video board and the monitor might start fighting each other
over the correct black level. In that case 100 Hz LF corner would be
more than sufficient (would be low enough).
