Good enough for daily use only needs a framebuffer, PCI interface and
DVI out. After that the only acceleration that X uses is 2D fill and
bitblt. For EXA you need alphablended bitblt.
No real need for DMA, VGA registers, TV out, VGA out, VBIOS ROM,
low-end 3D, etc.
What makes you think this? There are a lot of things people want to
do with desktops that are going to require non-rectilinear texturing.
Oh, and don't even get me started on DMA. If our raw rendering speed
isn't as fast as other GPUs, the only way we'll keep up is to keep the
GPU always busy. We also want to minimize the intervention of the
host CPU. This required DMA.
Also, I believe it's important to support analog monitors and be able
to boot as console in a PC.
I think I've pretty much covered everything you've objected to.
