considering that the HDCP and non-HDCP version have similar footprint and pin-assignment, it may be possible to "fix" the tv by replacing the deemable defective (that is, containing HDCP) chip with a non-HDCP one, maybe with a microcontroller of some sort to fool the rest of the electronics into thinking that the HDCP stuff was set :D
