It's not simple, as we can't actually buy them. Silicon Image won't
sell them to companies that aren't HDCP licensees. They are bound by
the terms of the HDCP Component License Agreement. Even the distributors
that resell them are bound by the HDCP Resller Associate Agreement.
So, we get a license.
The only way we could get them is if someone violated the agreement, or
if they were stolen (i.e., "fell off a truck"). It might be possible to
buy them in onesy-twosy quantities as repair parts for specific models of
consumer electronics, though technically even that should be controlled
by the agreements.
We could probably by engineering samples before we get a license.
Interesting to note that a pirate only needs one chip.
