Just some crazy idea I decided to throw in - how about hardware
acceleration for the scale2x, etc. family:

Since this effect is usually done for old games where it's either
impossible (due to emulation) or impractical (due to legacy code which
hasn't been touched for decades) to properly integrate this usually has
to be performanced on the whole window every frame which takes quite
some cpu-time (about 50% for some DOS game I ported a while ago).
Should be trivial to do on gate-level (see
http://scale2x.sourceforge.net/algorithm.html) and eat up almost no
space. Comments?
