I'd say pay in advance. Anything else doesn't make sense.

Hmm.. keep in mind that the US is still in the stone age
in terms of banking compared to the rest of the world.
Sending money from Europe to the US is always a big
gamble. Half of the time it just comes back, minus two times
transfere costs of course, without any justification.
As i assume that quite a few people from Europe will
be ordering OGD1, we should have a bank account
within the EU where people can wire transfere the
money.

Actually, putting some Hirose connectors in wouldnt be a
bad idea. They are not easy to come by usualy and if your
local distributor doesn't have them on stock you have to
either buy a full reel (2000 pieces) or pay 70USD shipping
when ordering from digikey (no joke!).
About the IDC, i would leave it unsoldered. Leave the people
the freedom to solder in what they want, but give them an
IDC connector so they don't have to search for the right
one (it's harder to come by than i thought, 10min of searching
didn't show any local distributor that had one fitting).
I personally, if i would want to use some of the signals,
i would probably just solder some header pins in as they
are cheap and easy to use.

The true CS students do not need to know how to program.
They learn how to abstract the process of programming to
the point of making programmers obsolete.
