Hi.
I've just checked in a first cut of an XF86 driver for the OGD1. I
would really appreciate some feedback on it. There are a few know
deficiencies so far, and I'll get to them soon (I hope).
- Digital output is not supported (this should be trivial to add)
- Duplication of source files (the progressive.[ch] files are just
copied from the lib/video_controller directory. They should be generated.)
- Only partial DGA support (not sure what this is good for)
- Does not switch back to text mode.
It should build from the tools/build directory. That script has been
modified to first download the xorg/utils-macro package and build that
first. (This package makes things needed to configure the driver - it
might be possible to set things up to not need it, but as things are the
xf86-video-ogd1 directory is "exactly similar" to the other xorg video
drivers)
After the macros package has been built the driver itself will be built.
You might need to "yum install" a few things for this to work, it's hard
to know what you might not have, but I suspect that you need the xorg
devel package (xorg-x11-proto-devel & xorg-x11-server-devel?).
To get the driver to work you will need an xorg.conf file. I've
attached the one that I use. It's easiest if you have two machines, the
victim machine has the OGD1 card in it and you have terminal access to
this machine from another. Steps should be as simple as this:

cp xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf
telinit 5
This should switch off any running X on that machine, copy the new
xorg.conf file into place and then restart X. If you look at the
/var/log/messages/Xorg.?.log file you should see messages from the OGD
driver.
I've attached an example log file so that you can see what a "good" log
file looks like.
You can the telinit 4 again to close down X. The driver doesn't restore
the terminal (assuming that the OGD1 was being used as such). This is a
bit of a problem, and is why it's easier with two machines.
As I said, any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated, as my X
knowledge is not that advanced.
