Hi, My answers are based on how the Sitka production server is configured, I'm sure someone will chime in and point out where the default out of the box installation is different.

If you're looking to put some records in so you can see how search and circulation work you don't need to use Acq. > I've managed to enter a few entries manually by using Cataloguing | > Add New MARC Record, clicking on the K book template and ticking Fast > Item Add, which allows me to type a class number and item barcode. > However, this seems a bit cumbersome - is there a shortcut that will > load the standard template automatically (there seems to be only one)? You can load more templates on your server: http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/1.6/draft/html/catalogingtemplates.html > What is more problematic is that I've managed to add some entries > without copies and can't seem to find these in searches, other than by > guessing the TCN. If there's no holdings (associated volume and item records) the title won't be found in the OPAC, but it will still be searchable in the staff client. A typical library workflow would be to add holdings when you create the MARC record. If you didn't want it to show in the OPAC, you could put it in a shelving location that is not OPAC visible. > I can see an "Add volumes" command but can't work out from the > documentation how to locate a work with no copies (ideally by author > or title) and then add copies. Equally, I can't see an option in the > staff client to edit a MARC work record to add missing fields, or to > change copy locations. Is all this covered in some documentation that > I've missed? Again, you should be able to retrieve records that don't have holdings in the staff client. Here's how: http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/1.6/draft/html/Addingholdings.html Here's how to edit the MARC record: http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/1.6/draft/html/MARCeditor.html The trick on this screen is all the keyboard shortcuts to add a subfield, etc. are listed under the Help button. The Sitka documentation has a few more screenshots that may be helpful: http://docs.sitka.bclibraries.ca/Sitka/current/html/marcedit.html Hope this is helpful. Cheers, Tara
