I tried some combinations of kernel, iscsi (tarball, debian kernel
modules), and came always out with the same
connection errors. Now I suppose the come from the transport layer
rather than from the iscsi layer.???

In my setup I tried to stick as near as possible to the Debian Lenny
libs and modules. Only if there was no Debian package
avaible I builded a lib or userspace tool by it myself. Is this the
right policy?

So a bunch of questions arose concerning the difference of your vs. my
infiniband setup.

Q1) What OS did you use?
    I use Debian Lenny.

Q2) What Version of Infiniband-Tools do you use? OFED?
I use the tarballs from OFED 1.3.1 and compiled from the tarballs
    opensm_3.2.2-1,
    libibcommon_1.1.1-1,
    libibumad_1.2.1-1,
    libibmad_1.2.1-1

Q3) Do you use the infiniband modules/libs from the upstream Kernel or
from the OFED package?
I used modules from the stock Debian 2.6.26-Kernel, only.
I digged into the sources and noticed that the OFED source files
(namely iscsi-iser.c) has the same version number
than the upstrem kernel sources. But in the OFED packages included
are several patches. I do not know if these patches have
found their way upstream into the (debian) kernel, yet?

Q4) What version of infiniband dev-libs did you use to compile stgt?
I used the debian (dev-) packages for ibverbs, and rdmacm.

Q5) Does the following ldd -v tgtd match to your tgtd?

poseidon:~/tgt-20080805/usr# ldd -v tgtd
        linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x00007fff1bdff000)
