Hummingbird does not give it away for free nor does it come integrated
as part of the operating system. When speaking with all of the NFSv4
vendors their greatest argument in favor of NFSv4 vs AFS is that NFSv4
will be part of the operating system and will be supported by the OS
vendor. This claim may be true for UNIX/Linux but as far as I am aware
from Microsoft, it will not be true in Windows through the Vista cycle
which is at least five years.

and by the time NFSv4 is ready for deployment the functionality of AFS
will be significantly improved as well.

you need to deploy today or you need to deploy at some unspecified time
