For all practical purposes, Microsoft Windows is the equivalent of free since users must go significantly out of their way not to obtain a copy with every machine they buy. It doesn't matter that OpenAFS is not a part of the Windows operating system. The OpenAFS supporters are not running around claiming that the reason you should use NFSv4 is because it is integrated into the OS by the OS vendor. Jeffrey Altman
