So, there's no way to get OpenBD to see the ODBC DSN?

Not in the admin on a Mac, no. If however you set up ODBC on a Mac works the same as Windows, then you can probably just use the datasource name in your code and it may "just work" but never having done anything with ODBC on a Mac, I can't guarantee that. On Windows all OpenBD does is pull in the ODBC datasource names. Did you try running a query with cfquery using the ODBC datasource name?

ODBC is up test and ready to serve. I just can't get the DSN name to appear in the Database Type list.

Well, it's ready to serve *something* but ODBC on a Mac is an odd beast. I really wish I knew why the standard way of connecting (JDBC) isn't working for you with your setup. As I said previously, I have MySQL installed on my Mac and it works fine, and I don't believe we ever got to the bottom of what is really going on with your machine. Do you know what port MySQL is running on for sure now? I believe you said this was part of a MAMP setup or something along those lines--what version of MySQL is it? Do they do anything weird with the configuration in that bundle?

I've got two clients who are less than pleased with me because I can't update their sites presently. And to not be able to do something now that I was able to do 10 year ago simply adds to the frustration.

I understand that you're frustrated, and I'm frustrated that I haven't been able to help you more. I'll continue to do everything I can. *IF* this is an option for you, I'd suggest uninstalling the MySQL setup you have now (AFTER BACKING UP ALL YOUR DATABASES!!!) and reinstalling a fresh version of plain old MySQL from mysql.com.

If uninstall/reinstall isn't an option at the moment, then we'll really have to try to get to the bottom of what's going on with your MySQL setup.

If someone knows now to remove the Sock requirement to connect to my database server, please contact me ... off list at [email protected] if the topic is outside the focus of the group.

Ah, so maybe the MAMP bundle doesn't use normal TCP/IP connectivity out of the box?

I'll seriously do whatever I can to help further, but unfortunately I don't know anything about ODBC on the Mac.

Try using the ODBC datasource name and see if that works.

If it doesn't, I can point you to the place in the admin code that checks to see if you're on Windows before it displays the ODBC refresh button and we can see if that works on Mac, but I'm not optimistic that it will behave in the same way.
