The biggest example of the need for this: use of outgoing-email services like that of gmail or authsmtp. These services do not support unsecured connections, period. Without my proposed CFMAIL extension, use of such services are out of the question without the use of custom tags. I myself need gmail-based email transmission, so this is crucial to me.
I've received no responses to the effect that such an effort has previously been proposed or initiated. What should I be doing to try to start this development process in an "official" way?
